4/27 - Co-director shares thoughts on future of WebReg -- As one of the co-directors of the student administration part of the Mosaic project, I would like to respond to Paul Cervantes' April 23 column, "The problem with WebReg." Paul's article makes a number of good points that I'd like to remark on.
4/23 - The Problem with WebReg -- WebReg's viability usually comes down to a single question: Were you able to register for the courses you wanted or needed? And much like any analysis of under-supply and over-demand, those able to register are happy, while those who aren't are furious. However, the utility (or disutility) in either case is drastically different. One group graduates on time as "expected," while the other must bear the explicit costs of additional semesters and the implicit opportunity costs of lost potential wages.

Over the coming 30 months the University of Arizona's Mosaic Project continues the process of replacing aging administrative systems in four key areas - Student, Financials, HR/Payroll, and Research- as well as implementing a new Business Intelligence solution using Enterprise Performance Management with Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition and Hyperion as their primary access vehicles. The University of Arizona is implementing PeopleSoft applications to handle student administration and human resources. In addition, the project is also implementing new systems for financials and research administration. This multi-million dollar 5 year project encompasses both the implementation project and ongoing support.
At the University of Connecticut, paper fee bills for undergraduates will be a thing of the past by Fall 2009. Glen O'Keefe, the university's bursar, called electronic billing a ˜greener" process because it helps the university conserve a significant amount of paper each semester. It also allows the bursar's office to save money on bank fees and paper supplies, which will keep tuition and fee costs low. E-bills can be paid online through PeopleSoft.
Meanwhile, the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and St. Paul has deployed Oracle Universal Content Management to allow those departments that have adopted it to manage content on their public Web sites. "By improving the contribution process for our business users while offering more flexibility for our designers, Oracle Universal Content Management has helped enable the University of Minnesota to create a more vibrant, timely and informative online environment," said Steve Cawley, vice president and CIO.
